a magical new adaptation of
‘THE SELFISH CROCODILE’ by Blunderbus Theatre Company
UK & International Tour 2012 – 2013, (touring to Singapore, Malaysia & Dubai)
Internationally acclaimed children’s theatre company, Blunderbus, are bringing their new production of “The Selfish Crocodile” to the Radlett Centre onWednesday 6th June 2012.
The show is based on the best-selling children’s picture book by Faustin Charles and Michael Terry, and has been adapted for the stage by Blunderbus founder and Artistic Director Bill Davies, with music and lyrics by Frank Goodhind.
“The Selfish Crocodile” tells the story of Mr Crocodile, who lives deep in the forest by the banks of a great river. He is a very selfish crocodile and he won’t share the river with any of the other animals. He thinks it is HIS river! So, the other animals stay away. Then, one day, they hear a terrible scream and think he has eaten someone. But Mr Crocodile has got a toothache and he is crying real tears. No-one dares to help him, they just stand and stare. Then, a very brave little mouse appears and thinks of a very clever way to solve this snappy dilemma…
This is a funny, heart-warming tale with a very happy ending, which reminds us that the smallest act of kindness often has the greatest impact.
Blunderbus storytellers use song, music and a host of beautiful puppets to bring this watery adventure to life. This is a must-see production for 3-7 year olds, their grown-ups, and of course, anybody with a pet crocodile! It includes puppetry, storytelling and fantastic handcrafted sets and props.
“Children really identify with the right and wrong in this story,” said Bill Davies, the show’s adaptor and artistic director of Blunderbus, “We are trying to show everyone that no matter how misunderstood and difficult people can be, there is a glimmer of hope for everyone”.
The book’s illustrator, Michael Terry loved the adaptation: “I thought the show was great. It was really good and fun and I am really pleased with what they did with the characters. It was great how they brought to life so many of the animals from the book”.
The press have also raved about the work of Blunderbus Theatre Company:
